At disaster scenes, Tzu Chi volunteers extend emergency aid to those affected with gratitude, respect and love. On normal days, they pay regular visits to those in need while extending financial assistance and emotional support, all with the selfless intention to help them stand on their own feet again.

Since 1992, Tzu Chi volunteers have been paying regular visits to various welfare homes to bring love and care to the residents, in addition to helping to trim the residents' hair and nails, feeding them, and so on.

Since 1997, Tzu Chi has been providing financial aid to needy students. Volunteers would visit the schools and the students' families to identify their actual needs. Besides aid in cash, volunteers also work to instil moral and humanistic values in the students.

Tzu Chi and UNHCR signed a MoU in 2005, and later in 2007 on the enhancement of mutual cooperation on education and medical assistance to refugees in Malaysia. To-date, the MoU has benefitted over 140,000 patient visits and over 3,500 education enrolments to refugee children.

Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA) was established in 1996. Bringing together healthcare professionals and volunteers, the team has been providing medical care to the sick and needy in various communities and disaster sites. In Malaysia, TIMA was successively established in Malacca, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Muar since 2001.

Upholding the tenet of “safeguarding lives through a humanistic approach to medicine”, Tzu Chi has set up free clinic in Malacca, Kuala Lumpur and Klang, to provide free Western and traditional Chinese treatments, dental service, physiotherapy and counselling services to the low-income and underprivileged group. The Free-Clinics also hold health screenings for the public.

Realizing many among the sick care recipients were dialysis patients, Tzu Chi established a Tzu-Chi Dialysis Centre in Penang Island in 1997. Five years later, another two dialysis centres were set up in Jitra and Butterworth, providing free treatments to eligible patients regardless of race and religion. In 2005, the dialysis centres were granted the ISO 9001:2000 certificate.

TIMA members organize medical outreach to various communities and remote villages across Malaysia to provide medical consultation and treatment, as well as raise health awareness among the people. For patients with mobility issues, TIMA members visit them at their homes. They also join Tzu Chi’s medical missions overseas, at their own expenses.

TIMA KL & Selangor established Tzu Chi Cancer Support Group in 2013, with the aim of helping the helpless patients and families with their professional knowledge. Other than organizing monthly get-together for the cancer patients, talks and seminars are also held to spread related knowledge and instil a positive mindset in coping with the illness.

Established in 2013, Tzu Chi Stroke Patients’ Support Group provides a platform for the patients to care for and motivate one another on the road to recovery. At the monthly get-together, various activities, such as drawing, handicraft-making and so on will also be organized on top of physiotherapy and motivational sessions to boost the patients’ confidence.

A Da Ai Kindergarten was set up in Malacca in June 2001. Following that, nine other Da Ai Kindergartens were established. Academic aside, the kindergartens place a strong emphasis on character development and inculcation of wholesome values. The children are also taught living skills, life education, humanistic culture, and to serve humanity and live with nature.

Thanks to the willpower of the teachers and keen demand on Tzu Chi’s education, the construction of the Tzu Chi International School Kuala Lumpur (TCISKL) is underway. The School located between Bandar Kinrara 9 and Bukit Jalil is expected to have its first intake in 2020, offering enrolments for kindergarten, as well as primary and secondary school levels.

To help foster a close relationship between parents and children, thereby bringing harmony to the families and by extension, society, Tzu Chi holds Parent-Child Bonding Class in various communities. Besides enjoying bonding time in a loving environment, the participants also learn to serve humanity and love the nature through various activities organized for them.

Tzu Chi Teenagers’ Group set up for secondary school students is aimed at helping the teenagers find the purpose of life and count their blessings through serving humanity. Lessons are also planned to instil the values of gratitude, respect and love, among others, in the teenagers.

Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association is formed by a group of university students, who share a common aspiration to live out their life values by dedicating themselves to various charitable activities during their spare time. The members also spread the seeds of kindness in their respective campuses, inspiring more youths to exercise compassion and social responsibilities.

Tzu Chi Teachers’ Association was established in Malaysia in 1995. Since then, its members have been actively promoting the teaching of Jing Si Aphorisms to instil wholesome values in students. Other than integrating the 5-step teaching method from storytelling to self-reflection in their teaching, they also promote the concept to other teachers.

The Great Love Mothers team, made up of a group of people who are concerned about the children well-being, enters the schools and assists the teachers in the teaching of Jing Si Aphorisms through captivating storytelling, dramas and other forms of performances or activities, all with the intention to steer the students towards the right path in life.

Ten Tzu Chi Continuing Education Centres have been set up in Malaysia to provide lifelong learning opportunities to people of all ages. The lessons grouped into six categories of language, humanistic culture, art, living skills, physical fitness, and children, not only allow the students to gain knowledge and skills, but also exposure to Tzu Chi’s humanistic culture and values.

The World of Tzu Chi monthly journal was published in Malaysia since October 1999. It has evolved through time and since January 2008, it has been published in both Chinese and English, and available in both hardcopy and electronic formats.

The Tzu Chi Malaysia Visual Team, formed in June 1998, records and produces Tzu Chi’s current news and events in Malaysia. The team also produces documentary and various short films that are broadcast globally via Da Ai TV and digital platforms to propagate messages of goodness and purify the mind.

Jing-Si Publications is a self-sustaining entity in Tzu Chi. It was set up to promote books written by Master Cheng Yen, Tzu Chi publications, as well as a variety of eco-friendly household products and healthy food products. Besides, inspirational talks are also organized to nurture wisdom.

Located on the ground floor of the KL Tzu-Chi Jing Si Hall, the Jing Si Exhibition Hall accentuates human kindness and propagate the Dharma through artistic displays and multimedia presentations. The serene atmosphere and inspiring contents help the visitors to rediscover their purpose and meaning in life.

Tzu Chi started its environmental protection initiatives in Malaysia in 1995. To-date, 160 recycling centres and over 980 recycling points have been set up across Malaysia, in hope to make environmental protection a way of life. Volunteers also visit corporations, schools, public and private organizations to advocate environmental protection concepts.

To achieve quality recycling right from the source, Tzu Chi volunteers bring their own eating utensils and reusable shopping bags wherever they go. They also keep promoting the idea of reducing consumption and the usage of single-use items such as plastic bags and disposable food containers, and reducing carbon footprints in daily life.

Many research studies have shown vegetarianism as the most efficient way to deal with global warming. To encourage more people to embrace vegetarianism, Tzu Chi initiated the 111 Ethical Eating Day campaign, calling upon everyone to observe a vegetarian meal daily, and to gather 1,110,000 people to go vegetarian on the 11th of January each year.
